MarEdu would like to see well harmonised, well assessed and well documented programmes
for education and training of merchant navy officers, based on the international
standards, with a view to improve safety at sea.
Maritime Education Division(MarEdu) of Centre for Factories of the Future (CFF) was built
on the experience of CFF which has many years of experience in designing and developing
vocational education programmes. CFF formed a partnership with
the Turkish Maritime Education Foundation (TUDEV) and several other nautical institutions
a partnership named Maritime Education Partnership. This partnership offers a range of support services on behalf of its members and aims primarily to improve safety at sea.
MarEdu has initiated MariFuture. MariFuture has supported the initiation of the
following new projects: MarTEL (www.martel.pro),
UniMET, CAPTAINS (www.captains.pro),
EBDIG, Maritime Training,
EGMDSS (www.egmdss.com) and SailAhead
to complement the existing Maider,
and SURPASS. Arrangements
are being made to form a consortium of progressive maritime education and training
organisations to develop a FP7 proposal to encourage young people to join the seafaring
profession.
TUDEV has been running Officer of Watch programmes for some 10 years. In 2003 TUDEV
become a BTEC Centre. BTEC Higher National Diplomas (HNDs) in Navigation Engineering
and HND in Marine Engineering cover the education syllabuses of IMO and are accredited
by IMarEST, MNTB and accepted by MCA. TUDEV became an NVQ Centre in 2004 and intends
to apply to become a SVQ Centre.
C4FF (www.c4ff.co.uk) and TUDEV together with
several nautical institutions of further and higher education have established a
programme of cooperation to improve education and training practices in Europe.
